    Technical Director

    Room 8 Group is an end-to-end strategic partner in external game development. Working across all platforms, we provide creative and technical expertise across game development, technology, art, trailers, and QA for AAA and AA games.

    The next great challenge is coming:

    In this role, you will be responsible for defining the technical vision, organizational structure, and engineering excellence standards of the Gameplay Engineering division. You will lead a distributed team of engineers and technical leaders, drive innovation across multiple projects and technologies, and ensure the successful delivery of high-quality gameplay systems for AAA, AA, and live-service games across PC, console, and mobile platforms.

    As a strategic technology leader, you will work closely with Studio Leadership, Production, Design, Art, and Core Engineering teams to build scalable engineering practices, develop technical talent, and strengthen Room 8 Studio’s position as a trusted development partner for the world’s leading game publishers.

    Superpowers you have:

    • 15+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, Lead Engineer, or Technical Lead within the games industry.
    • 3+ years of experience in a Technical Director, Engineering Manager, Director of Engineering, or similar leadership role.
    • Proven track record of leading engineering teams on AAA, multiplayer, or large-scale game development projects.
    • Deep expertise in gameplay systems architecture, gameplay programming, and technical design.
    • Strong hands-on experience with Unreal Engine.
    • Advanced proficiency in C++ and a solid understanding of modern software architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices.
    • Experience building and scaling engineering organizations, including hiring, mentoring, performance management, and career development.
    • Experience collaborating with Product, Design, Art, Production, and QA teams in large cross-functional environments.
    • Strong understanding of console development pipelines and experience shipping titles on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and PC platforms.
    • Experience with multiplayer systems, networking, online services, and live game operations is highly desirable.
    • Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows and emerging technologies in game production is considered a plus.

    Technical Leadership

    • Drive innovation in gameplay programming, including the adoption of Generative AI technologies and continuous improvement of production pipelines.
    • Establish strong collaboration with the Core Engineering Division on technical initiatives and resource-sharing opportunities.
    • Ensure the adoption of engineering best practices related to code quality, maintainability, performance optimization, and documentation.
    • Align capacity planning, resource management, and development processes with company-wide engineering standards.

    Team Management & Mentorship

    • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of gameplay engineers, scripters, and technical game designers at various levels of seniority.
    • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on ownership, creativity, and accountability.
    • Support career growth through coaching, feedback, mentoring, and individual development plans.

    Project Execution

    • Partner closely with Game Designers, Level Designers, Animators, UX/UI Designers, and Production teams to transform gameplay concepts into robust technical solutions.
    • Oversee the development and delivery of gameplay systems and features across PC, console, and mobile platforms.
    • Drive rapid prototyping, iteration, and validation of gameplay mechanics and concepts.

    Systems Development

    • Ensure the delivery of clean, maintainable, scalable, and efficient code using C++, C#, Unreal Engine Blueprints, AngelScript, or other engine-specific scripting solutions.
    • Oversee the implementation of gameplay systems for both multiplayer and single-player experiences
