The next great challenge is coming:
We’re looking for a Principal Level Designer to join our team on an unannounced AAA remake of a critically recognized third-person action game.
Superpowers you have:
- 8+ years of experience in Level Design roles on console/PC AA or AAA titles.
- A shipped third-person action or combat-heavy game, with hands-on responsibility for large, cinematic levels.
- Experience working with custom or proprietary engines, with a strong grasp of real-time workflows, terrain systems, and in-editor scripting tools.
- Deep understanding of pacing, spatial design, and combat readability in complex environments.
- Expertise in designing for linear or semi-open level structures, emphasizing player agency within choreographed encounters.
- Strong foundation in combat encounter design, especially melee-based or group-combat scenarios.
- Experience creating levels with tight visual direction, supporting both gameplay and cinematics.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to express level design goals clearly and cross-functionally.
You’re a rockstar if you have:
- Experience working on a remake or reimagining of an existing IP.
- Strong visual composition and environmental storytelling instincts.
- Previous leadership experience or interest in stepping into a Lead Level Designer role.
- Comfort reviewing and giving actionable feedback to team members.
- Understanding of visual scripting systems, especially node-based workflows.
- Prior experience with real-time cinematic tools and integrating narrative moments into level flow.
- Proactive mindset, ownership over quality, and a strong eye for polish.
Becoming part of Room 8 Group, you will:
- Design, prototype, and refine expansive 3D levels that balance exploration, combat, and storytelling within tightly choreographed, linear and semi-open spaces.
- Own level development from concept through final polish: layout, encounter setup, scripting, and spatial pacing.
- Drive the player experience through world structure, gameplay rhythm, navigation flow, and environmental storytelling.
- Collaborate closely with game designers, narrative, art, and technical teams to ensure levels support all pillars of the game.
- Maintain and iterate on levels based on internal playtests and design feedback loops.
- Produce clear and thorough design documentation including level maps, encounter flows, and pacing diagrams.
- Set the standard for quality within the Level Design team and support junior designers as a mentor and role model.
