Room 8 Group, in collaboration with LaSelle College, is organizing GameJam, a hands-on game development competition for students. Taking place November 22-24, this weekend challenge is designed for more experienced students enrolled in video-game-related programs at LaSelle. It will give participants the opportunity to showcase and develop real-world skills while working as part of a team in a dynamic and creative environment.
Over the weekend, seven teams of four to five students will compete to create a game concept based on a surprise theme, which will be unveiled at noon on Friday November 22. The event will kick off with an introduction to the theme, a review of the rules, and team concept presentations. As the weekend progresses, participants will engage in intense work sessions, with guidance and mentorship provided by seasoned industry professionals.
On Saturday, participants will spend most of the day developing their game, with opportunities for audience members to observe the teams in action. On Sunday, the event will culminate with game demos, where teams will present their completed projects to a jury of up to eight professionals from the games industry. Up to 100 visitors are expected to attend, adding excitement to the final presentations and offering support to the student developers.
In addition to the competitive element, GameJam is a valuable learning experience, allowing students to receive expert feedback and navigate real-world game development challenges. This event aims to foster innovation, collaboration, and creativity, supporting the next generation of game developers in Canada.
The GameJam is part of TechWeek, which will take place November 18-24, and promises to be a highlight for aspiring game creators in Montreal.
